Drake Bay, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica, August 20, 2010 - Because of great demand and the love of the hunt Captain Jeremy Librett, a successful tournament winning charter captain specializing in offshore and inshore fly and light tackle big game fishing in Costa Rica since 1992 will come out of retirement to pioneer kayak fishing off Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula beginning December 2010.
On The Fly Inshore & Offshore Costa Rica is located on the country’s northern Osa Peninsula just south of Drake Bay. Target species include inshore varieties such as Roosterfish, Jacks, Mackerel and Snappers. Unique to this operation will be the ability to target offshore species like Sailfish, Blue, Black and Striped Marlin, Yellowfin and Big Eye Tuna.
Accommodations are available for different budgets with high end, mid level and camping. All inclusive packages as well as single day trips are offered. The operation is located where National Geographic calls the “most biologically intense place on Earth” and proximity to Corcovado National Park creates the option for combining eco-travel including rainforest hiking, photography and multiple day overnight kayak trips with camping on remote beaches and in the national park.
“I am very excited to get back out there, be challenged and put customers on fish. This location has the best fishing grounds in the country and arguably the world for big game kayak fishing. It was not a hard decision at all to come out of retirement to pursue this . I had been looking for the right opportunity to hunt again”, said Captain Librett “I am excited to put my years of experience to use again and give anglers the best chance to make dreams come true”.
On The Fly will feature fully outfitted Hobie Mirage Outback Kayaks and a Hobie tandem Mirage Outfitter kayak. These crafts will have live-wells and state of the art safety equipment. The operation also has a 19’ and 26’ Boston Whaler for support boats and scout crafts. Blair Wiggins Signature rods by Wright McGill will be featured for conventional pursuits with Scott Rods and Ross Reels for fly fishing. Sticks will be strung with Cortland Lines.
“This type of operation, focusing on big game from kayaks for the recreational angler was not possible very long ago in my view. What brands like Hobie and Eagle Claw have done with their products makes it possible now,” states Captain Librett “Having the diesel boat sleeping at the dock is a real bonus though. I like the fact customers can combo kayak days with the traditional charter boat if they like.
On The Fly Inshore & Offshore Costa Rica is wholly owned and operated by Captain Jeremy Librett. Since 1992 the company has specialized in sport fishing trips to Costa Rica with a niche for fly fisherman and light tackle anglers Captain Librett is winner of the 2001 Billy Pate Invitational Fly Fishing Tournament and a highly respected captain by his peers and customers.

On this extraordinary voyage, Captain Jeremy Librett will run both On The Fly and the Catch Um'. The boats travel from Ecuador's Galapagos Islands to Costa Rica's Bat Islands, which will include both the famed Hannibal Bank and Cocos Island. The boats will depart out of the beautiful and prolific fishing town of Quepos, Costa Rica. Captain Jeremy Librett is a known and accomplished fly captain winning the 2001 Billy Pate Invitational Billfish Fly Tournament.
On The Fly is a custom 28' inboard diesel built to fly fish and the Catch Um' a 48' Viking outfitted to fish and travel. This unique combination of boats and a skilled captain in blue water fly fishing will be the ultimate fishing platform for the pursuit of pelagic species like Blue Marlin, Black Marlin, Striped Marlin and sailfish as well as vast numbers of inshore species like Roosterfish and Wahoo.
This charter company with the combination of great boats, a great teaching captain and the fantastic fishery is the first true fly fishing charter operator to be available to fish the Pacific coast of Ecuador and Central America.
"I just got back from 2 days fly fishing on Jeremy's boat 'On the Fly'. My only bill fishing experience prior to this was catching 2 sails on the fly last year in 7 days of fishing with other boats and a few non productive trips with other captains in years past. This year with Jeremy I got SIX sails not including numerous hookups and break offs as well as my share of not so good hookups. Jeremy is an excellent teacher and after fishing numerous years in Quepos I truly believe that he will honestly give you the greatest chance of getting a marlin or sailfish on the fly. If you are there don't miss this opportunity of a lifetime." Dr. Bob Verde.
