Classic Billfish Popper (Old Skool)
Correct technique would be to use a much smaller popper head. Bright pink is traditional but it is advisable to also have a dorado (blue/green/yellow) combo rigged. I have seen days when pink gets turned down. Include some mylar flash to get extra use out of the fly as the feathers will break down quicky. DO NOT use to much material because that can cause the hook rigs to be fowled in the fly and reduce your hook up ratio. Threadfin Herring Fly
These bait fish are also known as Greenbacks. Here in Cental America they are called "Sardinas". This is a very productive inshore pattern because these baitfish are common here in Costa Rica and get bit up real strong when live baiting as everything eats them. It is very important to have some of the yellow to define that stripe on the body profile. The baitfsh also has a red dot near the gill. I tie the head red instead of creating the dot.
Clouser Minnow
Don't leave home without it. This is just a very effective all around fly. The word is the constant action of this fly on the retrieve is due to the dumb bell eyes mimic a fleeing baitfish. I have used this fly for all inshore applications and it has proven successful. Pictured here is pink... shrimpesque perhaps. My preferred color is chartreuse but I always have brown and white in the selection also.
Abel Anchovie
This is a very consistat Yellow Fin Tuna fly that is my first option when targeting tuna. This color pictured is a producer but I recommend having a pure white option and a brown option also. Tuna are a very finicky breed and at times just will not eat anything offered. I would also have a crab fly, squid fly and a spotted snapper fly rigged and available.
Inshore Popper
This basic popper is a classic that I use often. My preffered color is a dark green or a brown and white. I tend to trim the feathers back on the tail to avoid the short bites that happen often
